About GumptionFest
GumptionFest is a grassroots, community organized festival that was started as a way for local artists, performers and businesses to get up the gumption to get together and celebrate as well as share their art, creativity and passion.
It is most importantly an effort to help artists come together and support each other by way of inspiration, ideas, tools and much more. It helps create what we like to call an "artistic support system." We therefore want to raise the bar for Sedona's intake and output of creative expression and diverse understanding.
GumptionFest consists of friends, partners and volunteers working together cooperatively. It has relied on the help of many, to contribute the things we need to operate effectively each year.
The first GumptionFest on June 10th, 2006, was a great success in many ways. It brought more than 1,000 spectators to 5 venues and showcased more than 100 artists, performers and youth. It increased sales at surrounding and participating businesses and had a lasting impression on the community.
Every year, GumptionFest has grown.
GumptionFest: Part Deux added a new art gallery and stage in 2007 and expand some activities to Sunday. It was also the year of the infamous GumptionBall and Jello wrestling event.
GumptionFest III: The Good, The Bad, the Gumption was the first to expand to two full days in 2008 ... an no Jello wrestling.
GumptionFest IV: 4 Kids added a whole play area for children and vendor portion for children-related activies in 2009.
GumptionFest V: Raiders of the Lost Art in 2010 added official pre-party event on Friday, expanding GumptionFest to three days.
Now in the sixth year, the festival expects to draw twice the crowd and participation and has made a place for itself as Sedona’s largest free community-run festival.
Through genuine friendships, care for our community and it's well being and building new relationships with local organizations, businesses and residents; GumptionFest strives to connect artists and performers with venues to display or perform their work. It's grassroots efforts, Website and other online social networks, are growing to support the myriad of opportunities that Sedona offers in the way of inter-connectedness and true community involvement in the arts.
